Cushnoc Academy National Geographic Bee Results


On Tuesday, 10 student contestants participated in our 8th annual Geography Bee and were faced with some pretty tough questions, especially compared to the preliminary bee questions from the week before!
Congratulations to all 10 students!
And, special congratulations to our top 3 placers:
3rd Place...Sawyer Templeton (8th grade)
2nd Place...Jordan Bell (6th grade)
1st Place...Isaac Bell (8th grade)

Isaac will now take a written Qualifying Test to attempt to qualify for the Maine State Geographic Bee to be held at the end of March. Top 100 scorers from the state of Maine with qualify. Good luck Isaac!

School-level Spelling Bee Winners
We recently held our 4th Annual School-level Spelling Bee with contestants from the 4th through 8th grade. Congratulations to the following:

Maine is ME Art Contest Winner
Congratulations to Ian Gervais (5th grade)! His art work, created for the "Maine is ME" contest sponsored by First Lady Ann LePage, was one of 30 pieces of art chosen from over 800 submissions by K-8 students throughout the state. The selected artwork will be featured in the First Lady’s upcoming family-friendly Love.Read.Learn!™ Baby Journal, to be published in partnership with the Barbara Bush Foundation. The journal is a scrapbook-style booklet that promotes literacy and health to Maine families with newborn babies and will be provided at no cost to parents of newborns in 2013. His work depicted a person paddling in a canoe on a Maine river.

Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest Winner
Congratulations to 8th grader Anna Peterson, whose essay on "Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence," was chosen as the winning essay of the local DAR Chapter contest (Samuel Grant-Mary Kelton Dummer chapter). Her essay will now proceed on to the state competition.



American Mathematics Competition (AMC8) Winners
We recently received award notifications for the 10 students in grade 6-7-8 who participated in the national math competition in November. Our school-level awards were as follows:
